Dead Possum in Creek
We spotted a dead possum in the creek. I saw no bullet holes, no bleeding, no signs of a struggle. They only live for 2 years, so perhaps it died of natural causes. But it looks, well, angry.
I used a long stick to push it out of the stream and onto land. I intended to return later to bury it. But when I got back to the spot a few days later, it was gone. Not a trace. Not a piece of bone or a fragment of fur.
What type of scavenger would devour the entire dead carcass? Whatever it was, IT ATE THE BONES.

Heyde Clock
I had a laser surgery treatment on my right eye yesterday, performed by Dr. Heyde. As I was waiting, his clock struck 4 PM by suddenly breaking apart to reveal a secret chamber behind the face, accompanied by beautiful classical music (Bach?).
The breaking apart seems to be symbolic of how a laser busts up cataracts in the eye.
As Dr. Heyde was doing the laser procedure, removing scar tissue behind an implanted lens, he spoke to his assistant about his fencing activity and need of a new fencing helmet.

Dr. Heyde did the same thing when he removed cataracts from both eyes.
This conversation with assistants during treatments is, I think, a special technique designed to relax the patient and get their mind off what is actually happening. I highly recommend the acclaimed opthamologist Raymond Heyde and the Heyde Eye Center.

Power Outage
At 10:30 PM, the power went out. I decided to go on an hour and a half journey, on foot, to find a gas station or store still open to buy D batteries for my boombox radio/CD player.
Nobody open, "power out" signs.
Here's what my neighborhood looked like with the power out and one car with its headlights on. Power came back on around midnight.
Here I am in the thunderstorm, with umbrella, my face lit up by a tattoo parlor sign, on University Street.

I believe in a stoic indifference to harsh weather and love to experience the extremes. Home is so much more cozy when I return.
Besides, I'm used to working on the computer late at night, reading, or listening to my boombox. Couldn't do those things, so off I went into the wild weather.
