October Sunset with Chemtrails

My wife says "Notice how the vertical trail in the center is casting a shadow on the horizontal streaks behind it."

This afternoon, a big German shepherd dog was (illegally) off leash, and came bounding into our backyard from the creek. My wife had Buddy the minpin on the long red leader cable and was trying to protect Buddy by getting him into the dog kennel behind our garage.

But the German shepherd came right up to my wife before she could safely secure Buddy in the kennel. Buddy snarled and barked and gro
wled, lunging toward the German shepherd to attack it. The German shepherd freaked out and ran off.

Buddy the minpin doesn't know he's little. If he perceives anyone or anything as an intruder or a threat, he's ready and anxious to do battle.

His philosophy is: "The bigger they are, the more there is to bite."

Good boy, Buddy!

Tree at 12 Oaks

How do these sprawling, outstretched tree branches,

extended so far horizontally, not break off at the trunk?

Raccoon Returns to Earth From Whence It Came

Let this photo remind you of your own mortality. Taken today as I walked to Chilis restaurant. You can barely see the remnants of the poor raccoon as it deteriorates via "dust unto dust" mechanism of natural process. You and I will soon join this rascal. Think about it. Make the remainder of your life count for something.

It is strangely picturesque as the twigs and pine needles embed themselves into the rotting carcass, blurring the division between animal and soil.

Steamboat Torch

Robert Killion, curator - collections and technology at Peoria Historical Society displays a torch that was used on steamboats.

Steamboats working at night suspended iron baskets filled with oil-soaked scraps over their sides to illuminate the shore. Torch baskets helped pilots navigate, but they also posed a risk of fire if sparks landed on flammable cargo.
